“How many professional actors are there in the world?”
Google results: “About 135,600 in the United States in 2017.”
“What’s the seating capacity of Dolby Theatre (Oscars awards venue)?”
Google results: “3,400”
So only 2.5% of the professional actors in the United States will have a chance to have a seat at the awards, not to mention receiving a nomination or winning an award.
What separates a good actor from a great one?
Other than skills and work ethics which can be developed and gained, there are attributes which cannot be transferred. After Robert Downey. Jr played Iron Man, it’s pretty hard for us to envision another actor in that suit.
What separates a great teacher from a good one? Every teacher had access to the same information, but why does one present the information, or demonstrate the skill better than others? Maybe it’s that incredible pace and timing, the tone and dynamics of voice, the look in the eye and the grin at the right moment. The presentation which is not just engaging and clear, but the personality and style which arouses your curiosity and inspires you, an inspiration that you would one day become like him/her.
That’s the Master Teacher.
If education is the means which we uncover the potential of our children, then there must be equity in education.
Effective and engaging lessons must be made accessible and affordable to more children, just like all of us deserved a Robert Downey, Jr Iron Man.
