Q: What makes studying at City College different?
A: The City College classroom experience involves the creative use of graphics, games, video clips and music to bring concepts to life. Teachers are encouraged to engage their students daily and to create a learning environment that is fun and interactive. Each classroom session also has inherent lessons built around good values to build character in our students.


Q: Can City College motivate someone who is not at all interested in studying?
A: City College believes that every student possesses the desire to excel in life. We use a variety of teaching methods to engage our students, but we may not be able to make much impact during the duration of the course if the student is not willing to study.

 

Q: What is the pass rate at City College?
A: Approximately 60% of our graduates move on to tertiary education in the polytechnics, junior college or private colleges. More than 95% attain the GCE 'O' Level certificate.


Q: Are the teachers at City College highly qualified?
A: All our teachers are university graduates, with a majority having obtained their qualifications from the National University of Singapore and Nanyang Technological University. They have years of experience in tutoring and classroom teaching and are approved by Singapore's Ministry of Education. On average, a City College teacher possesses 10 years of  teaching experience. Six of them have obtained or are currently pursuing Masters degrees.


Q: How is City College funded?
A: Besides income from school fees, City College by contributions from corporate sponsors, individual donors and foundations. We also run fundraising projects and part of the profits from O School, a performing arts centre founded by our principal, Kenny Low, goes back to City College's programmes.

Q: How are fees collected at City College?
A: Our fee collection is as per Council for Private Education stipulations. You would have indicated your preferred payment mode at the start of the course. Please contact us at 6511 6833 for further information on fee collection.


Q: What if I can't pay my fees on time?
A: Please contact our Student Admin Officer immediately prior to the due date of the fees.


Q: How do I withdraw from City College?
A: You can contact our Student Affairs Officer for assistance.


Q: Can I take fewer than six subjects?
A: It is dependent on the course that you enrolled in.


Q: Can I arrange for a school visit?
A: You can make an appointment with our course consultant during office hours. The visit will last about 10 minutes.


Q: What does the entry test for admission to City College entail?
A: There are two parts to the test, English Language and Mathematics, with both set at lower secondary levels.


Q: What does the interview for admission to City College entail?
A: The interview will help us get to know you a little and also give you a chance to clarify any concerns you may have about the course or the school. The interview will take an average of 20 minutes.


Q: How soon will I know the outcome of my application for admission?
A: We will inform you within one week of your interview.

Q: What happens if my application is rejected?
A: You can make an appeal in writing within seven days of receiving our letter of rejection.

Q: Do I register for the GCE 'O' Level examination on my own?
A: You can register through City College during the stipulated period.


Q: Can I get a deferment for National Service?
A: Yes, if you enroll into any of our programme on a full-time basis.


Q: When does class start?
A: There are different commencement dates for different courses.

Q: Is there an age limit for admission?
A: There is no age limit.


Q: Can City College help someone who hasn't studied in a few years?
A: We are committed to helping every student according to his or her needs, but it ultimately boils down to the student's will.

Q: Does City College have a mentoring scheme?
A: Yes. Our mentoring scheme assigns every student to one mentor, most likely one of their subject teachers who will interact with each student assigned to him or her individually on a regular basis outside of teaching hours.

Q: When and how long are term breaks at City College?
A: We have shorter breaks than other schools in order to complete our intensive courses on schedule. Please refer to our academic calendar for details.

Q: Will my personal information be used for marketing purposes?

A: No. We are committed to keeping your personal information confidential and will not divulge any of it to a third party without your written consent.

Q: Must I inform the school if I am sick?

A: Yes, you will need to submit a medical certificate at the front desk office the next school day. International students must meet a minimum attendance of 90% for their student pass to be renewed. Local students need to attend at least 75% of their classes to graduate.
